On the Easel

Today’s On The Easel is an infant’s portrait in natural light.

Very small infants are absolutely lovely while they observe their world around them. They truly embody the innate energy of innocence and presence

and the ‘beginners mind’ that so many major religions seek as wisdom.

I’d love to help record the fresh faces of newborns, toddlers and early youth that changes so quickly (don’t we moms know!)

Let’s talk about how to make yours special.

Getting To It

My pictures come in as sentences,

short bursts of words my mind plays

in response to a picture or feeling.

Not song lyrics or anothers poetry

but what my mind says in seeing it;

the repeated refining and speaking it aloud,

the ear to hear a new sentence within,

creates the energetic poetry

that finally gets to what

I really mean to say.

‘Reading’ Your Room Through Intuitive Art Placement

One day after weeks of sitting in a room, I can suddenly feel the image on the left should be moved to the right – and feel much better on doing so.

My inspiration for this post is from a Thread advising people to hang their own original art up on their walls ‘somewhere you’ll see it often’.

Many of my community and clients are visual artists themselves, and it’s a terrific idea in seeing your digital images from your computer or camera in real prints and framed art of YOUR OWN WORK

is a good energy practice for creative people who exist in sensitivity and clairsentient lives with experiences that need to sit and process over time.

As a manifesting generator with sacral authority, I get a first burst of sparkly ‘sugar’ emotion that takes time to filter through to feel and choose my authentic response. I no longer make (or let myself be pressured into) decisions on important things without sleeping on it at least 48 hours.

From an energetic view, though, I would curate the work by feel to fit and enhance the ‘time’ the room is used, to mesh and match the images with the organic time flow of your home to enhance where you rest, work, and especially where you ‘future’.

Some images illustrate your waking early morning energy: to show your family fortune in golden triumph (and an actual commissioned family portrait I created for an innovative influencer.)

I have nothing against vision boards, but I am drawn to that meaningful art message being within periphery and sight elegantly, however it works for you.

The images for your day and afternoon income generating area or workspace ideally are chosen for its subconscious boosting ‘recharge’ to inspiration throughout the workday; tabletop sized family photos of the kids at play, big wide baby smiles,

or the special shot that is your absolute FAVORITE and makes you breathe in happiness every time your eye falls on it.

Legacy photos of loved ones and goals achieved create the warmth of gratitude in mind. Sit and have coffee, fill your eyes with beauty, and create a restful garden for your mind.

The first choices may take moving around or changing out. It’s a process that takes time for me: sensing and ‘reading the room.’

Those photos or art pieces are placed by their inner sensation of feeling ‘who goes where’ until it brings my eyes happiness. I would love to hear if this exercise has benefits or has worked for you.

Positioning

Face of toddler chlid swung upside down.

Counterintuition: an instant change of picture and response,

given by neuro and physical emotions saying, ‘this, instead‘.

It’s a part of your intuition and a place that comes from even further out / (or deeper);

a ‘wild card’ of deep knowing, immediately.

It requires trust in yourself like never before,

physically being in your body like never before,

which is the practice of inside body connection and inner communication

that builds mental and emotional strength to do other things,

and in that spirit, ultimately, the things you were meant to do.

Influence Your Home’s Energy Atmosphere

Seen at different times of the day,

the art in your home engages and influences your energy.

Like arranging feng shui elements in a home

bringing flowing good energy into life activities,

your art has other metaphysical abilities in addition to decoration.

A life missions’ purpose in the morning, inspiration in the afternoon,

or a satisfying sense of legacy relaxing in the evenings.

I have had clients hang their couples’ portrait in their kitchen

where they contemplate their relationship

in the private early morning time before work.

Others hang child portraits eye-level,

raising confidence in photos of love

on the walls they pass every day.

Baby sized portrait books offer

a personalized bedtime storytelling experience.

Beauty created for both the eyes and spirit.

I would love to know if you have created

such zones of energy in your home in this manner.

It is easy but intentional. Contact me to create this ‘flow’ of energy

whether with my custom portraits or your own.

A Branch of My Own

I have been a photographer without a fixed location for much of my career here in Chicago. A permanent location never seemed in the cards for me.

As years went by, the vision of this passion would flare briefly when I displayed my photos in local coffeeshops, bakeries, libraries and other unconventional spaces.

I once had a charming space in a vintage building at a prime location in the Wicker Park area. As everything I earned was consumed by rent, I quickly learned the grown-up lesson about pricing my services appropriately!

Back to home base again, not only for financial reasons, but to do a deep dive into the inner self that kept sabotaging me, saying I did not deserve to be successful.

Seeking independence, going my own way, creating something different: the miasma of all these rejections seemed to hang in the air, clouding my picture of myself with my dream.

I did not know I had to keep seeing the dream in detail, no matter what my current situation said, no matter what painful memories I remembered, to eventually hear the clear quiet that guides my actions now.

This included honest, updated assessment of that relationship as well. Five years after publishing this post, I have left this relationship.

But…using the emotional energy contained in memory that is able to be recalled and returned fully back to me, the enjoyment of life returned full force,

and a spectacular dream came true during the summer of 2024.

I love to share what opens energy around me, and am posting an original affirmation that also addresses the concerns around making increasing amounts of money.

There are different ways to use this gem:

  1. Record it in your own voice and listen to it as the start to each morning.
  2. Gently sit with each sentence and let the images and emotions and experiential memories well up, allowing the emotion to move through without resistance.
  3. You can choose one sentence and use it as the inspiration to consider through the day.
  4. Say it out loud during your morning walk in the park in the strongest, most positive voice you have.

I release all resistance to where I am right now financially.

I release being angry with or hating my current position now with money. I let this go now.

I open myself to know that where I am now is only temporary, and I choose to fully embrace and accept where I am now with complete love so that I can create more money and wealth.  So it is.

I release all resistance to being broke, or not having enough money.  I allow myself to just be with it now.

I open myself to know that if I embrace this now, and stop looking at my situation as bad, the energy will transmute and things can change.  I allow myself to accept it now.  So it is.

I release making being broke or without money wrong.

I release the feeling that where I am right now is bad.

I release all beliefs that I am a failure if I don’t have enough money.  I let that go and open myself to know that life is full of contrasting experiences just so that I can get clear on what I want to create.

I open myself to know that “good” or “bad,” is just “desired,” and “undesired.”  So it is.

I release any repeated focusing on how much I don’t have.

I release all decisions to see, hear, focus and speak from scarcity, and I choose now to focus on all the abundance in my life.

I open myself to remember that scarcity and limitation doesn’t really exist anywhere but in my mind. I release it from my mind and focus and in every situation I choose abundance. So it is.

I completely and fully forgive myself for creating this current situation.

I open myself to correct myself without blame, shame, or invalidation.  So it is.

I release all beliefs, agreements and programming from my parents and 5 generations back that making money is wrong for an artist, troublesome, and dangerous, and that I am disloyal for wanting to be rich.

I release all programming that money is scarce, limited, and hard to make.

I release all memories from this lifetime and all other lifetimes of issues of and around money.

I let this go now, and I transmute all memories and unwanted energies into pure light… so it is.

I release my association of earning and having money and finances with emotional, mental or physical pain.

I open myself to see that money was never capable of hurting me or those I love. I let this go and see money and prosperity and creativity with new eyes. So it is.

I release all decisions, agreements and programming from this life, energy, and experiences that having lots of money is limited, difficult, hard, dangerous, and troublesome to have.

I let this go and open myself to remember that I am a powerful creator capable of creating and manifesting anything I choose.

I choose to remember that all it takes is a simple shift in my focus. I remember this now and shift my focus accordingly. So it is.

I open myself to fully experience having more and more than enough money in my life.

I open myself to experience being rich and wealthy, and I allow myself to have it now.  So it is.

I choose to put myself in the space of already having that which I want, so that I call it into my experience metaphysically first.

And I open myself to have fun with this, and to enjoy the journey. So it is.

I now rest in abundance, I rest in having enough. I find my stillness in the space of well-being and in being, doing and having more. So it is.

After the affirmation, ’embody’ it –

Wiggle a ‘happy dance’ like a kid! Smile! Clap, jump and shake out your body!

BE thanks for the abundance you have now and what you already have experienced! Spread the good energy ‘sparkle’ around in your world!

May this aid circumstances seen and unseen to bring abundance into your life.

To Your Health

My personal portraits focus on enjoyment & contemplation.

To that end, I remove canes, walkers, and aids for standing in the final framed portrait.

It is not a denial of their current age or health situation,

but a focus on a personal image that celebrates

a life-affirming vision of wholeness.

Always to your health, Dorothy

Knowledge is Golden

Professional artists love the opportunity for a ‘hands-on’ workshop with Sean Michael Felix, one of the best gold sign artists in the Midwest and the US.

Everyone’s creativity was enhanced by the beautiful setting and free flow of information: an urban ‘artist’s retreat’ experience.

Even the cats played their part to bring an ultra-relaxed vibe into the space.

These artisans in glass, tattooing, custom finishing, and sign-making come here to play, take these techniques to their businesses, and make them their own.

It feels great to be able to impart such knowledge and create artwork that adds much-needed beauty to this world.

Laughter In My Soul

This is a reprint of the article “About Life” by Napoleon Hill.

Life, you can’t subdue me because I refuse to take your discipline too seriously.

When you try to hurt me, I laugh — and the laughter knows no pain.

I appreciate your joys wherever I find them;

your sorrows neither frighten nor discourage me,

for there is laughter in my soul.

Temporary defeat does not make me sad.

I simply set music to the words of defeat and turn it into a song.

Your tears are not for me, for I like laughter much better, and because I like it,

I use it as a substitute for grief and sorrow and pain and disappointment.

Life, you are a fickle trickster — don’t deny it.

You slipped the emotion of love into my heart

so that you might use it as a thorn with which to prick my soul —

but I learned to dodge your trap with laughter.

You tried to lure me with the desire for gold,

but I have fooled you by following the trail which leads to knowledge instead.

You induced me to build beautiful friendships —

then converted my friends to enemies so you may harden my heart,

but I sidestepped your figure on this by laughing off your attempts

and selecting new friends in my own way.

You caused men to cheat me at trade so I will become distrustful,

but I won again because I possess one precious asset which no man can steal —

it is the power to think my own thoughts and to be myself.

You threaten me with death, but to me death is nothing worse

than a long peaceful sleep, and sleep is the sweetest of human experiences

— excepting laughter.

You build a fire of hope in my heart, then sprinkle water on the flames,

but I can go you one better by rekindling the fire — and I laugh at you once more.

You have nothing that can lure me away from laughter,

and you are powerless to scare me into submission.

To a life of laughter, then, I raise my cup of cheer!

Laughing all the way, I celebrate your own Songs of Triumph in portrait form. Contact me here.
